13th Annual Food & Wine Festival October 18th

What started off as a Wine Tasting...

It is hard to believe that this will be the 13th Food and Wine Festival that is being held at The Adventure Hotel on October 18th.

Know to most as the "Event of the Year" in Nelson, BC it has grown in size as well as popularity.

There are over 25 representatives and more than 600 wines to be tasted from around the world.

This event would not be complete without the incredible food displays set up throughout the hotel.  From the seafood extravaganza to the popular chocolate fountain there is something for everyone.  While you stroll from area to area, servers are on the move with tasty h'ordeuvres during the night.

Tickets are now on sale and going fast.  You can get your tickets at the Front Desk of The Adventure Hotel.

$100 inclusive and advance sales only.

Renovations Phase 2

Transformation Almost Complete

The second phase of renovations have been completed and we have now started on to the last phase.  The oldest section of the hotel, built in 1913 is now completely remodeled.

Giving the building a touch of nostalgia along the way, we used the stunning red brick as a feature wall in the rooms and the lobby.

The "tower" consists of 18 new rooms, 8 budget and 10 economy rooms.  In keeping with affordability, we offer our guests rooms ranging from $49  -  $79  -  $99.  Starting at $49, you can stay in one of our new Budget rooms.  These rooms feature bunk beds (either a twin/twin or a double/twin), large screen television, work table, air conditioning, self controlled heating system, luggage bench, free wireless internet and a half bath.

The Economy room features either a queen bed or a double/twin bunk, large screen television, work table, air conditioning, self controlled heating system, full bath, and of course free wireless internet.

In Phase two, the transformation of the lobby was completed.  With automatic doors installed, guests no longer have to struggle with the luggage.  The new reception area displays a large television with a video showcasing the local area.

We invite you to come have a look at our hotel.  With the completion of Phase two, we look forward to the final changes that will take place with Phase Three.

Meet the Crew

Louie's Steakhouse & Lounge

There is a sign that hangs in Louie's Steakhouse & Lounge.  It reads:  Made my favorite thing for dinner.  A reservation.

It is comforting to have a place that you are familiar with. A place you can call for that night when you just want a little pampering.  A place where you can take the family for that special occasion.  We want Louie's Steakhouse & Lounge to be that place.

You may already be familiar with us or you may be someone who has never walked through the doors (hard to believe, right!) but we want you to get to know us.

Introducing Rob Little, Food & Beverage Manager for The Adventure Hotel.  Rob is a man who wears many different hats.  A graduate from Simon Fraser University, Rob took his skills and joined the team at the Vernon Golf and Country Club as a PGA of Canada Assistant Professional.  Moving on up is what Rob did when he moved on to Silver Star Club Resort to become their Assistant General Manager.  The sports industry wasn't Rob's only interest, the Food and Beverage side of things took hold of Rob when joined the Atlific Hotel and later the BPI Restaurant Group and served as Food and Beverage Manager.

In 2009, Rob moved to the Nelson area and started with Granite Pointe Golf Course as their PGA of Canada Teaching Professional.  The same year, Rob joined us to become the Food & Beverage manager of Louie's Steakhouse & Lounge.

Rob has worked side by side with Louie's staff, both in the service and the kitchen.  It is not out of character for Rob to throw on a set of "whites" and help on the line when needed.

So, make sure to come in, say hi, relax and get to know us.  A little hint, to start up the conversation with Rob, bring up golf!

Join our facebook page and give us a review!  We would appreciate it!  Just scan the QR code and it will take you right to the page!

In the near future, we will be featuring videos, starring our amazing chefs!  Watch them as they show you how to create some of their signature dishes!!

People watching in Nelson

People get excited about the little things...

It is fun to be working at the Front Desk of The Adventure Hotel with all the changes that have happened.  It is so entertaining to see the reaction from the guests as they step through the new automatic doors and into the newly renovated lobby.

The response to the change has been overwhelming.  I even had one guest ask if they were in the right hotel!

The lobby is located in the oldest section of the hotel.  Originally built in 1913, the old red brick has become a focal point in the renovation, not only in the lobby, but in the rooms as well.

The lobby is now bright and colourful:  new artwork displayed, Edison light bulbs glowing above the concrete countertop (there are even bike gears embedded in the countertop), shiny metal wall coverings, a large visual display showing not only the rooms we offer, but photos of Nelson.

Whether you are a visitor to Nelson or a local, please come by and say hi and see the changes that have taken place so far.  We know you will be as thrilled with it as we are!

Renovations Phase One

Out with the Old

Deluxe Corner Room, After

Spring of 2013, and we are set to start the renovations.  The first phase starts with the section of the hotel that was built in 1939 and is located on the corner of Hall & Vernon Street.

The vision was simple; stylish rooms with amenities for the business person travelling and at an affordable price.

The corner unit, pictured here, is one of our most popular rooms.  It is located in the corner of the building overlooking the lake.  The room now features an electric fireplace (you can even change the colour of the flame!), built in heat and air conditioning unit, large wall mounted television, simple furnishings, tiled bathroom with a rain forest shower!  Extra amenities include: USB Ports, alarm clock, iron/ironing board, hair dryer and of course, free wireless internet.

New Rain Forest Bathroom

With a new concept, Pick Your Rate $49  ~  $79  ~  $99, we have a room for every budget.  Phase one complete, we can offer our guests 8 new rooms that have been completely renovated and in 3 different styles:  Deluxe, Economy, or Budget.

Deluxe:  Choice of King, Queen or 2 double beds

Economy:  Choice of Queen or Double/Twin Bunk bed style

Social Media Overload

Where does one even begin?

Like any new project, you start off enthusiastic and full of brilliant ideas, and then reality sets in and you realize you were not quite prepared for what you started.

With re-branding of The Adventure Hotel, it is almost like starting a new business.  You must start from the beginning: create a Facebook account, get that Twitter tweeting, Google + needs to be claimed, set up email accounts, and maintain the website of course.  But oops, forgot something, change everything from the old name of The New Grand Hotel over to The Adventure Hotel.

Pretty soon the feeling of "what was I thinking?!" sets in.  You can not let this scare you though, you must power through because you know that in the end, all of the work will be worth the effort you put into it.

Make a plan, stick to it, don't get distracted by social pressure to join everything, and keep your friends close.

Historic Nelson Building Gets A New Look

The Adventure Hotel, formerly known as The New Grand Hotel

The Adventure Hotel welcomed in the new year with a big bang.  Not only did we change the name of this historical business, but with the 100th birthday, we gave the old girl a new look.

Changes started in Spring of 2013 with what would turn into a 3 phase plan.  Two phases under our belts, the outcome is more than we expected.  The feedback from not only our guests, but the general public that have come in to have a peek have been overwhelming, to say the least.

We invite you to join us in the journey as we will be showing what we were and what we have become...

Expect an Avalanche of Change
